When it comes to the sex of your unborn baby, grandmotherly theories and recipes abound. Depending on the shape of the mother's belly, her diet and the month of conception, we might know whether we're expecting a boy or a girl. One of the most frequently cited methods for predicting a baby's sex is to look at the ears on the first child's head. Fact or fiction? You tell us! In any case, here are the details of these two methods:

Boy or girl? Check the hair whorl on your first baby's head!

  • If your first child has a straight or comma-shaped whorl: your next baby might be a boy 💙
  • If the whorl forms a circle: your next baby could be a girl 💖
  • And here’s the twist: If your child has two whorls… you guessed it—twins! 👶👶

Predicting gender based on the hairline at the nape of the neck

Another old wives' tale suggests looking at the hair growth at the nape of your first child's neck:

  • If the hair crosses over, forming a small "tail," the next baby might be a boy.
  • If the hairline is more horizontal and extends smoothly down the neck, it could be a girl.
