Late or Early, 15, 20, or 40 Days – Your Menstrual Cycle Is Random and Unpredictable

In these conditions, it’s difficult to pinpoint the right moment, and you might be wondering if it’s possible to get pregnant with an irregular cycle. Let us explain.

What Is an Irregular Cycle?

On average, menstrual cycles last 28 days. A cycle is considered irregular when there is a variation of more or less than 3 days compared to this baseline for at least three consecutive cycles.

One or two chaotic cycles can occur due to external factors such as stress, strong emotions, or extreme fatigue. However, if all your cycles have been irregular for a while, it might be worth consulting a specialist to identify a possible underlying cause and assess your lifestyle, diet, etc.

Can You Get Pregnant with an Irregular Cycle?

To conceive, nothing new here—you need to bring an egg and a sperm together. An irregular cycle still involves a cycle, which likely means ovulation. So yes, it is entirely possible to get pregnant even with irregular cycles because you probably ovulate at some point in your cycle. Rest assured.

Here are some tips to maximize your chances of getting pregnant despite irregular cycles:

  • Relax. Stress contributes to cycle disruptions and can speed up the arrival of your period.
  • Be patient. It’s not easy when you’re trying for a baby, but it may take some time.
  • Observe yourself daily to detect ovulation. You can track your basal body temperature (measured in the morning before getting out of bed). It slightly drops before ovulation. Your libido might also increase around this time, and you may notice a slight thickening of vaginal discharge during ovulation.
  • Have regular, stress-free intercourse. It’s possible to conceive at any point in the cycle.
  • Consult a healthcare professional. In some cases, ovulation can be induced with treatment.
